NEKSOM is dedicated to creating a collaborative platform for physicians of Korean heritage in New England to connect, share knowledge, and grow together. Our members encompass patient care, education, research, health care industry, and policy-making. Through symposiums, small group meetings, and networking events, we provide opportunities for professional development, mutual learning, and the exchange of valuable insights. By fostering a supportive community, we aim to enhance medical practice, elevate healthcare outcomes, and contribute to the growth of our members and the broader medical community.

NEKSOM offers a variety of activities to foster professional growth and collaboration, including our annual symposium, New Year Gathering, welcome events for new members, and engaging talks like "Meet the CEO." We also organize educational visits to esteemed institutions, giving members unique opportunities to connect, learn, and grow.
Founded in 2023, NEKSOM has been serving the Korean physician community in New England. We thrive on individual growth while maintaining a family-centered approach, and we uphold our core values of compassion, respect, and integrity.

The New England Korean Society of Medicine (NEKSOM) hosted its Annual Symposium, aimed at fostering collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing among professionals in the medical community. Dr. Dongsoo Lee shared his inspiring journey from a practicing physician to a leader in the biomedical industry. Emphasizing his transformation, he highlighted how his medical background served as a core foundation for his achievements in the industry. Dr. Lee discussed his accomplishments and the challenges he faced, illustrating how being an MD was integral to his mission of becoming a leader and innovator in the biomedical field.

This lecture is part of our Community Outreach Program and is open to members of the Korean American Seniors Association of Boston (보스톤 한미 노인회).

Dr. Ko, Jong Sung played a pivotal role in the discovery and development of lazertinib, a lung cancer drug approved by the USFDA. Lazertinib is used primarily for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations. Dr. Ko's contributions are significant in the field of oncology, particularly in developing targeted therapies that improve progression-free survival rates and overall survival for patients. His work has been instrumental in advancing treatments for lung cancer, offering new hope for improved patient outcomes
Dr. Ko Jong Sung is a prominent scientist known for his leadership in drug discovery, particularly in the development of lazertinib, an FDA-approved lung cancer drug. He currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer at Genosco, a biotechnology company. Dr. Ko has an extensive background in scientific research and management, . He was also a Visiting Scientist at UC Berkeley.
Dr. Ko holds a Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from Caltech and has a strong focus on anti-cancer research. His work in developing targeted therapies like lazertinib is recognized for advancing treatments for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), especially for patients with specific genetic mutations.
