Who We Are

NEKSOM is dedicated to creating a collaborative platform for physicians of Korean heritage in New England to connect, share knowledge, and grow together.  Our members encompass patient care, education, research, health care industry, and policy-making.   Through symposiums, small group meetings, and networking events, we provide opportunities for professional development, mutual learning, and the exchange of valuable insights. By fostering a supportive community, we aim to enhance medical practice, elevate healthcare outcomes, and contribute to the growth of our members and the broader medical community.

    Meet the CEO 

    Dr Jong Sung Koh

     Venue: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (East Campus) Shapiro Building, Leventhal Conference room 


      We had another wonderful gathering, featuring a distinguished lecture by Dr. Jong Sung Koh, Ph.D., President & CEO of Genosco, a pioneering scientist in targeted cancer therapies. Dr. Koh played a key role in developing Lazertinib, an FDA-approved third-generation EGFR-TKI for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), now integrated into Johnson & Johnson’s combination therapy trials.  


      With a Ph.D. from Caltech and extensive experience at Scripps, LG Life Sciences, and KRICT, Dr.  Koh shared insights into his lifelong journey of drug discovery and innovation, highlighting the challenges and breakthroughs in precision medicine. His talk provided invaluable perspectives on advancing cancer treatment and improving patient outcomes through cutting-edge pharmaceutical research.  NEKSOM extends its gratitude to Dr. Koh for his inspiring presentation and to all attendees who contributed to the engaging discussions. We look forward to more insightful events that bridge science, medicine, and innovation.

     Professor Kang shared his career journey, highlighting his transition from a cardiologist to a physician-scientist. In his talk, "Physician-Scientist: Bridging Benchside Discoveries to Bedside Therapeutics," he discussed how his clinical experience shaped his research and how he leveraged scientific discoveries to improve patient care.

    Professor Kim completed his master's degree in Public Health at Harvard Medical School during his sabbatical year. He shared valuable insights on a critical topic in medicine through his talk, "From Landmark Cases to Resource Rationing: Navigating the Ethical Landscape in Healthcare."

    Dr. Tae-Geun Gweon, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at The Catholic University of Korea and visiting scholar at MGH, Harvard Medical School, specializes in inflammatory bowel disease, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and endoscopic treatment of digestive tumors. His research focuses on colonoscopy quality, endoscopic resection, and early colon cancer prognosis. His talk covered common gastrointestinal symptoms and functional GI disorders.

           Dr. Daeyoung Roh, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Hallym University and a Visiting Professor at MGH, Harvard Medical School.  A leader in academic psychiatry, he has received multiple awards and directs PTSD treatment for crime victims. His talk, "The Secret to a Happy Life: Habits for Caring for the Brain and Mind", explored neuroscience-based strategies for mental well-being.

          Dr. Yoonjeon Kim, Associate Professor at Asan Medical Center and visiting professor at Harvard Medical School, discussed the importance of regular eye check-ups and early diagnosis in preventing vision loss from common retinal conditions. This lecture was part of our Community Outreach Program and was open to members of the Korean American Seniors Association of Boston

    Our IMPACT

    NEKSOM hosted its 2nd Annual Symposium, aimed at fostering collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing among professionals in the medical community. The event brought together experts to discuss innovation in medicine, scientific research, and career development, and was supported by the Boston Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI).

    Advancing Biomedical Research Partnership

     The 1st Inaugural Meeting was successfully held, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and clinical practice. Supported by the Boston Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), the symposium played a pivotal role in strengthening international research partnerships and advancing biomedical innovation.
